Here's how it works:

Get Valiants or Items: Use TXP to obtain more of the same Valiant or Items, increasing their Exp/Hour rate for passive earnings.
Unlock Requirements: Some Valiants or Items require you to have a certain number of another specific Valiant or Item before you can unlock them.
Special Events: During events, unlock rules for new items may change. For example, some cards might only be available for purchase during the event, but continue to provide Exp/Hour afterwards. Other cards may be completely time-limited, with both their availability and Exp/Hour benefits expiring when the event ends.

The Daily Combo is a special feature in the team tab:

Daily Combo: Unlock the correct sequence of 3 Items or Valiants each day to claim a big reward. The combo must be entered in the correct order. The correct items and their order change daily at 00:00 UTC.
Discover the Combo: Collaborate with friends to find out the correct daily combo.
